Q. What happens after I contact you?
A. We will ring you and ask you more about what has happened to you. We’ll need to know what photos you have and if we need to get any proof. Once you’re happy to go ahead we’ll start negotiating on your behalf.
Q. I’m not sure whether I want to sell my story – should I still contact you?
A. Absolutely. We’re happy to talk for as long as you like and if you still aren’t happy then there’s no obligation to go any further. Also if you are not sure whether your story is good enough then still get in touch and we can talk it through.
Q. Can my story be used without my knowledge?
A. Definitely not. We need your permission to place your story and you will be sent a written agreement before anything is published. Shout News is committed to upholding the PCC Code of Practice.
Q. Does my identity need to be revealed?
A. Yes. However, on some occasions magazines will allow for identities to be changed but this is usually for legal reasons. We can discuss this on an individual basis.
Q. How can I make sure I am happy with what is printed?
A. We will read your story back to you before it is published and you can make as many changes as you want until you are totally happy with the article.
Q. When will I be paid?
A. You will be paid in full approximately four to six weeks after your story has been published, depending upon which magazine or newspaper it appeared in.
Q. Will I receive anything in writing confirming this?
A. We need your written permission to publish your story. An agreement will be sent to you before we go ahead with any article confirming where your story will appear and how much you will be paid for it.
Q. Can I sell my story more than once?
A. Yes of course. We are negotiating more and more multiple deals. But if you have already appeared in a magazine or newspaper you must tell us about it.
Q. Can my story be published again without my knowledge?
A. No, we sell all stories on a first use only basis, which means a magazine or newspaper cannot syndicate your story without permission.
Q. Do I have to pay you?
A. No. We don’t charge you for our services. Every single penny we negotiate for you is yours to keep.
